Ingredients
100 % Green tea Japan BanchaBrew & Taste
Bancha has a light yellow infusion and a sweet, refreshingly astringent taste. It's naturally soft and round. The aroma is pleasant and grassy. The leaves are rolled unevenly, and are larger, light green.
This green tea is recommended to sip throughout the day.
Origins
Whoever wants to taste green tea should definitely start with the first step. Only then should they try bancha, a Japanese staple tea that you'll find in most households there. It's harvested from Chinese tea trees (Camellia sinensis) grown for sencha. The leaves for bancha are plucked later than for sencha and from lower branches. Nevertheless, they give a very delicious drink with a sweet taste.
The harvest usually takes place between summer and autumn. It is entirely the responsibility of the women and girls who fill large baskets with tea leaves. They quickly hand them over to the processors who spread the leaves out in the sun and leave them to wilt. Green tea is not fermented, so it retains its natural color, taste and aroma. In Japan, a short but intense steaming is used to stop the oxidation of the enzymes. The leaves are then rolled, dried, sorted and packed.
