Ginger black tea offers a copper-colored brew and a strong aroma and taste. It has a distinctive black tea flavor from traditional Ceylon, which has a pleasant astringency. Its full-bodied, cutting and slightly citrusy taste is followed by strong notes of ginger. Prepare this tea as an iced tea, it won't disappoint!
Origins
Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) has become the world's leading producer of black tea, though unintentionally. The tropical island in Southeast Asia used to focus on growing coffee trees, as it has ideal climatic conditions for them. But in 1869, a rust epidemic devastated the entire island's crops and destroyed almost all the plantations. And so, thanks to the Englishman James Tylor, the country strayed to the tea plantations. The first plants were brought from Assam, and by all accounts, it was a step in the right direction. Within fifteen years, tea from Ceylon was sought-after all over the world. Today, Sri Lanka tops the charts as the largest producer, producing more than 300,000 tonnes of tea annually. Tea accounts for two-thirds of the country's foreign trade earnings and its harvesting, processing and sale are handled by the country's 600,000 inhabitants. Tea leaves are harvested three times a year, and black tea production is fast. Once the tea has been left to wilt, oxidate, rolling, breaking, drying and crushing follows. The added ginger is purchased from a verified EU supplier, and the tea is flavored with a few drops of natural flavoring. Thus, it better retains its natural flavor properties.
The natural flavoring does not contain heavy metals nor synthetic fragrance carriers, so it is safe for your body. It does not acidify, cause heartburn nor stomach irritation.
