This black tea might surprise you with its light color. The medium aromatic intensity with a predominantly malty aroma is ideal for those who prefer a subtle but distinctive flavor. Although it is light, its taste is unique. That is because it combines the results of traditional Georgian technology and some modern black tea production techniques.
Origins
Taiguli tea originates from the picturesque Guria region in western Georgia. It lies in the heart of the Colchis Plain, bordered by 22km of Black Sea coastline. The region is known for its hospitality, majestic nature and exceptional climate that's ideal for growing tea. Guria, with its unique combination of coastal plain and surrounding mountainous areas, offers the Chinese tea plant (Camellia sinensis) perfect natural conditions.
The Georgian tea tradition has a long history in the Guria region. It dates back to the time when the locals made teas from the wild plants of the Caucasus Mountains. Therefore, they were involved in tea long before the first tea plants were brought in by Soviet farmers in 1847.
In the 20th century, Georgian black tea was well-known throughout the Soviet Union. On the other hand, Georgian green tea was sought after by the people of Central Asia. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Georgian tea industry faced a significant decline in production but has experienced a slow recovery in recent decades. The Guria region in particular is undergoing significant changes.
The whole region is famous for its seaside resorts attracting visitors from all over the world. Not only can you taste the delicious Taiguli tea here, but you can also enjoy relaxing holidays, hiking in the mountains or enjoying the fresh mountain air and healing mineral springs. When you come here, definitely visit the old Oda houses. An evening on the wooden balcony with a cup of fragrant tea is one of the most unforgettable experiences of every traveller.
