Origins
Nettle is an herb that deserves more respect than it usually receives. Most people know it mainly as an unpleasant weed that causes a painful burning and itching if you accidentally step on it. Yet nettle has been used for thousands of years, and its effects are better documented than those of many other herbs. Even Ötzi, the Iceman – one of the best-preserved prehistoric finds ever – carried nettle fibers with him, and during World War I, nettles were used to make fabric for clothing. In tea, nettle is used to help the body remove excess water and support normal kidney function. It's also connected to the normal functioning of the cardiovascular system, nervous and mental balance, and bones, hair, and nails condition.
Dandelions are right at home in meadows and people were gathering them long before modern medicine came into existence. The Arab physician Avicenna wrote about it as early as the 11th century, and European herbal traditions recommended it for gallbladder and liver problems. Its leaves are associated with normal urinary tract and diuretic function, so much so that the French colloquially call the dandelion 'pissenlit', which can be roughly translated as 'peeing the bed'. Dandelion is also mentioned in connection with normal liver function, the condition of the skin, hair, and nails, joint health, and cardiovascular system function.
Birch is a tree whose leaves are associated with normal urinary tract and kidney function, detoxification, and cleansing of the body. It's also mentioned in connection with normal digestion, weight management, normal cholesterol levels, and healthy joints.
Horsetail is one of the oldest plant species in existence, notable particularly for its effects on urinary system function and excretion, as well as skin, hair, and nails health.
This blend wouldn't be complete without juniper. Its berries cover a significant portion of what you expect from diuretic support. This includes promoting the removal of excess water from the body, normal kidney function, joint health, normal digestion, and normal blood sugar levels. Moreover, it's an antioxidant.
