100 % Chinese Chaga BIOBrew & Taste
Chaga has an earthy, slightly bitter taste. It smells similar to what you might imagine a forest smells like after a rain – earthy, woody and slightly sweet. Its powder can be added to dishes or beverages and is also suitable for brewing tea.
Origins
Chaga, scientificaly named Inonotus obliquus, is a medicinal mushroom that people have sought out and collected since the very beginning of civilization. It grows mainly in cold regions of the northern hemisphere, such as the Russian taiga, northern Europe, Asia and North America. It usually parasitises the bark of birch trees, where it forms hard masses resembling burnt coal. Beneath the black, melanin-rich surface is an orange, cork-like mass.
In ancient China, chaga was known as the "king of mushrooms" and was used accordingly. As a natural source of many vital substances, it was highly valued even among the natives of Siberia. Chaga is considered an adaptogen – it helps the body adapt to stress and promotes mental well-being.
The main bioactive substances contained in the chaga mushroom include polysaccharides, triterpenoids, betulin, betulinic acid and antioxidants, which have the potential to strengthen the immune system and protect cells from oxidative stress. As a result, chaga is used in the production of various nutritional supplements and teas.
Beta-glucans, polysaccharides with strong immunomodulatory properties, are also often mentioned in connection with vital mushrooms. Scientists would say that they stimulate macrophage activity. Macrophages are cells of the immune system that destroy pathogens and promote other immune responses. Thus, they help strengthen immunity and aid recovery.
Chaga is mostly harvested during the cold months when the nutritional content is at its peak. Harvesting must be done gently in order to not damage the mushroom and the host tree, so that the mushroom can be harvested again.
