The copper-colored infusion with shimmering golden tones will delight you with its perfect taste and captivating sweetness.
Origins
Forget peaceful tea gardens. In Yunnan, you have to climb to an impressive 2,300m to get your hands on Mao Feng's Golden Bud. However, the harsh mountain environment with its abundant moisture and fertile soil suits the tea plants perfectly. Golden Bud Mao Feng is a real rarity. You will find it quite different from ordinary black teas as soon as you open the package. The loose dried leaves have a specific yellow color which is due to the unique harvesting method, where only the buds that have not yet opened are picked. This means that the leaves cannot get enough chlorophyll from the sun and therefore remain bright. The selected buds are then carefully spread out and left to rest and dry in the fresh air for about four hours. They are then rolled by hand on wooden tables for about half an hour to give the leaves the desired shape typical for this type of tea and spread on bamboo sheets where they ferment for 8 hours.
The whole process is completed in a special oven, where the leaves are dried at around 80°C for 2 hours. Unlike other teas, the heat treatment uses only wood instead of charcoal, which gives the resulting infusion a distinctive color. The specific growing conditions of the tea trees, the precise timing of the harvest and the meticulous handwork throughout the production process make China Yunnan Golden Bud Mao Feng undeniably unique.
The annual production of this tea is low, especially compared to the demand. Take in the scent, and the perfectly tuned aroma will completely take you away. Its exceptional and naturally sweet flavor only confirms that Golden Bud Mao Feng is one of the elite Chinese teas.
