Ceylon tea

Ceylon is not Ceylon, it is Sri Lanka. That was in 1972. Until then, the island and the Southeast Asian countries shared the name Ceylon. The country was renamed twice until it settled on the name Sri Lanka Democratic Socialist Republic, which is still in force today.

But that may not interest ManuManiacs too much. The more important news for quality tea lovers will be that the production there is set on black tea, whether whole-leaf, broken or powdered. Also, depending on the altitude at which they grow, they vary in taste, theine content and aroma. In any case, they are the best teas in the world, bold and distinctive. Ceylon exports 300,000 tons of tea annually, about 90 % of its total production.

Ceylon's main growing areas are Dimbulla, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Ratnapura. Genuine Ceylon Tea has a lion holding a sword in its logo. In the story describing the journey of the tea planters to the island, coffee trees, the mould epidemic and the British colonizers play a major role. The plot is easy to figure out. At the end of it, tea is delivered to the royal court.
