Ingredients
100 % Black tea Ceylon OP 1 PettiagallaBrew & Taste
Ceylon teas have a pleasant taste and great aroma. In addition to that, Ceylon OP1 'Pettiagalla' leaves a slightly spicy trace on the palate that differs it from other black teas. Strong, yet only moderately astringent copper-colored beverage can be enjoyed at any time of the day. However, it is recommended to drink it in the afternoon.
Origins
This high-quality tea comes from the Pettiagalla plantation, the oldest one in Ceylon (Sri Lanka). The cultivation of tea plants, combing, and processing of their leaves are still done traditionally. Local farmers use tools from previous generations and honor the practices. That is why Ceylon OP1 'Pettiagalla' tea is so special and sought-after. The famous tea garden lies in the Dimbula region, high in the hills, surrounded by beautiful countryside. Here the Chinese tea plants (Camellia sinensis) have optimal conditions for growth and the production of quality buds and leaves rich in health benefits. Mostly the buds and the two closest leaves are harvested, as these contain most of the aroma and flavor.
Ceylon OP1 'Pettiagalla' is characterized by its elegant, long, wiry, dark leaves. During production, the workers must observe all procedures, temperatures, rolling and grading. After picking, the tea leaves are transported to the factory where they are spread out on grids and left to wilt. The subsequent rolling and scrolling damage the cell structure. This releases the juice, which is collected and added back to the plant material. The fermentation is supervized by the most experienced plantation manager. It is crucial that the oxidation of the enzymes takes place under strict conditions. Drying is often carried out in ovens where the temperature is controlled to ensure that it does not exceed the limit. If this were the case, the tea leaves would be useless and have an unspecified, even horrible flavor. Throughout the whole process, the tea leaves turn from green to dark copper and acquire strong flavor and aroma.
