This black tea has a bright and pure ebony color. The taste is rich, intense and reminiscent of malt. You’ll be able to recognize spices, which are followed by a pleasant sweetness.
Origins
This is a really exceptional tea. Let’s find out why! Firstly, it comes from the famous Dikom tea garden in the Assam region of India (specifically in the Dibrugarh area). Secondly, it boasts the Tippy Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe (TFBOP) label, which is a testament to its high quality and careful processing. And thirdly, it has a wonderful, full-bodied flavor with abundant caffeine content.
Now, first things first...
Assam is one of the most important tea regions in the world. It’s located in northeast India and has a warm and humid climate, with heavy rainfall during the monsoon season. Average temperatures range between 22- 32°C, creating ideal conditions for the cultivation of Chinese tea plants (Camellia sinensis). The unique flavor of the local teas is due to both the specific microclimate of the Assam region and, of course, the way the tea leaves are processed.
In the case of this black tea, we can tell its quality at first glance. It bears the name TFBOP, Tippy Flowery Orange Pekoe, which reveals that the tea contains a high proportion of young buds (tips) of golden color. These give it its smooth sweetness. The processing begins with the careful harvesting of the youngest leaves and buds, which must be wilted, rolled, fermented and dried. The result is a tea with long, evenly curled leaves and a high content of golden tips. The addition of Broken (B) in the TFBOP designation indicates that the leaves were intentionally broken into smaller pieces during processing. This shortens the infusion time and increases the intensity of its flavor.
Let's stay with tea trivia for a while. We brought tea from the Dikom Tea Estate, located in the Dibrugarh area. It has a very illustrious history and reputation as a plantation producing the highest quality teas. The name Dikom comes from the local Bodo language where "Di" or "Doi" means water and refers to the purity of the water used in the production of the tea. The strategic location of the garden in the heart of Assam's tea region allows the tea plants to grow in optimal conditions, so it is no wonder that the teas there taste so delicious.
Assam Broken TFBOP will offer you a full-bodied, bold flavor with typical malty and slightly spicy notes. It's delicious on its own, but you can also sweeten it with milk and sugar like they do in India. It is also popular as a base for breakfast tea blends such as the popular English Breakfast.
