Origins
In our Yerba Maté Memory & Focus blend, we’ve combined several herbs that people have valued for centuries for their ability to support focus, mental performance, and overall vitality. Take advantage of them and live life to the fullest!
Yerba maté (Latin Ilex paraguariensis) is the leaf of an evergreen tree from the holly family. The tree grows up to 15 meters tall, has dark green, firm leaves, and small whitish flowers. It grows naturally in the subtropical regions of South America, particularly in Paraguay, Argentina, and southern Brazil. Local residents have been preparing a drink from the leaves of this holly for centuries and it remains a part of their daily lives to this day. Yerba maté is valued primarily for its stimulating effects, which help suppress mental and physical fatigue, refresh the body, and boost metabolism.
It contains, for example:
- polyphenols,
- xanthines (such as mateine),
- flavonoids,
- B vitamins,
- minerals (potassium, magnesium).
The maidenhair tree (Ginkgo biloba) has fan-shaped leaves that turn a distinctive golden color in the fall. Native to China, this tree is one of the oldest species in the world – its history spans over 200 million years. Today, it is cultivated in parks and plantations in many parts of the world. Ginkgo is sought after primarily for its support of cognitive function, memory, and blood circulation, particularly in the brain. It also contributes to physical and mental balance.
It contains, for example:
- flavonoid glycosides,
- terpene lactones (ginkgolides, bilobalide),
- organic acids,
- antioxidants.
Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus) can be described as a shrub about 3 meters tall. It has palmately compound leaves and small, round, dark-colored fruits. It grows naturally in Northeast Asia, particularly in Siberia, northern China, and Korea. In traditional medicine, it's valued as an adaptogen – a plant that helps the body better cope with stress and physical or mental strain. It supports mental performance, contributes to overall physical well-being, and strengthens the body’s natural defenses.
It contains, for example:
- eleutherosides,
- polysaccharides,
- lignans,
- flavonoids,
- essential oils.
And let’s also mention the rosehip, the fruit of the dog rose (Latin Rosa canina), a thorny shrub commonly found in Europe, Asia, and North Africa. The shrub can grow up to 3 meters tall, has arching branches with thorns, and blooms with delicate pink flowers in the spring. In the fall, these develop into red oval fruits – rose hips – which are among the best-known natural sources of vitamin C. Rose hips are valued for their toning effects on the body and mind; they support the body’s natural defenses and contribute to normal digestion.
They contain, for example:
- vitamin C,
- flavonoids,
- carotenoids,
- pectins,
- organic acids.
