Origins
The most prominent herb in this blend is tulsi, hailed as the queen of the plant kingdom. It's known either as Ocimum sanctum, Ocinum tenuiflorum or more commonly, holy basil. It is native to South Asia, where it is also used in folk medicine. Today it is also found in Australia, South America and Africa. Tulsi has an important place in traditional Ayurvedic and Unani beliefs.
It's often used by folk healers of Greece, Italy, Vietnam and Central America. Tulsi is a woody shrub growing 30-80cm tall and associated with many legends. Its twigs have even been discovered in Egyptian pyramids, and in India it has been considered a sacred herb for over 3,000 years. Its leaves are very carefully dried. We source tulsi as well as most other ingredients from certified sellers in the EU, so we can be sure that they do not contain any heavy metals or other health hazards.
Rooibos is often classified as a not-tea. It is the leaves and twigs of the Cape tea plant, which is found exclusively around Cedarberg, South Africa. It needs very specific conditions for its growth and has needle-like leaves on long twigs. These are harvested whole, chopped and left in large piles to ferment. Fermentation gives them a delicious sweet taste and mahogany color.
