Origins
We dedicate the following lines to the main actors of our tea - lavender and blueberry.
For example, did you know that lavender belongs to the same botanical family as the deadnettles? And that the essential oil made from lavender contains over 100 compounds with extraordinary health effects? Or that the ancient Greeks or Romans believed that lavender baths had a power to cleanse you? Lavender (Lavandula) is, in short, an herb of many interesting uses and benefits.
We’ve probably all encountered it in the wild, since the shrub is common around Europe. The plant grows up to 60cm and has silvery, hairy leaves and distinctive, aromatic purple flowers. Lavender grows mostly in dry areas with plenty of sunlight. They can’t tolerate humidity and shade or areas without natural airflow. They thrive not only in Central and Southern Europe, but also in northern parts of Africa and India.
As we’ve already mentioned, scientists have identified terpenes, polyphenols and flavonoids in lavender. Its relaxing effects are attributed to terpenes –linalool and linalyl acetate in particular. This is why lavender oils, teas, infusions and ointments are very popular as aids for healthy sleep, normal digestion and healthy joints and the cardiovascular system.
Like lavender, blueberries are also a natural multivitamin. These little berries are rich in vitamins C and B, and also contain provitamin A, magnesium, manganese, iron, potassium, zinc and more. An antioxidant par excellence! Blueberries are one of the favorites of not only confectioners, but also of herbalists. They use them to restore and maintain normal function of the urinary tract and cardiovascular system as well as support joints and ligaments.
Blueberry shrubs can be found around Central Europe, Iceland and northern parts of China and Mongolia. You may also know it as bilberry or whortleberry.
