Origins
Since 2 ingredients play a major role in this tea blend, we dedicate the following lines to them – lavender flowers and blueberries.
For instance, did you know that lavender belongs to the same botanical family as mint? And that its essential oil contains over 100 compounds with extraordinary effects? Or that the ancient Greeks or Romans believed in the cleansing power of lavender baths? Lavender (Lavandula) is, in short, an herb with many interesting uses and benefits. We know it well from our latitudes as a shrub with a height of 20-60cm, silvery hairy leaves and distinctive, strongly scented purple flowers. Lavender grows mostly in dry areas with plenty of sunlight. They do not tolerate humid habitats, or shaded areas without natural airflow. They thrive not only in central and southern Europe but also in India and northern parts of Africa.
As we have already mentioned, scientists have identified terpenes, polyphenols and flavonoids in lavender plants. The relaxing effects are attributed to terpenes – specifically linalool and linalyl acetate. That is why lavender oils, teas, infusions and ointments are very popular as aids to healthy sleep, digestion, joints and cardiovascular system.
Like lavender, blueberries can be considered a true gift of nature. The blue fruits of the shrub called European blueberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) are rich in vitamins C and B and contain provitamin A, magnesium, manganese, iron, potassium, zinc and other elements. Therefore, it is an excellent antioxidant. Blueberries are one of the favorites not only of confectioners but also of folk healers. They use them to restore normal function of the urinary and cardiovascular systems, as well as the normal condition of joints and ligaments.
Blueberries are found in Central Europe, Iceland, northern parts of China and Mongolia.
