Origins
What does a moment of peace look like to you? Just try and imagine it: close your eyes… you’re holding a hot mug in your hands, with a soft, fruity-herbal scent enveloping you. The first sip caresses every cell in your body – it's fresh, slightly sweet, with a mildly spicy aftertaste. That's exactly what Raspberry-Thyme herbal tea tastes like. Let's take a look at three of its ingredients that deserve special attention.
You may be surprised to know that raspberry leaves are used in teas as often as the fruit itself. The raspberry shrub (Rubus idaeus) grows all over Europe, often found at the edges of forests or along country lanes. Why collect the leaves if the juicy, ripe fruit is right there, though? That’s because even our ancestors were already aware of their beneficial effects on our health.
Raspberry leaves contain:
- tannins,
- flavonoids,
- vitamin C,
- fragarin.
When you open a bag Raspberry-Thyme, you will, unsurprisingly, smell thyme. It’s a distinct, but unobtrusive, subtly spicy, camphor scent. Thyme grows mainly in the Mediterranean, where people have loved it for thousands of years.
Thyme has high amounts of:
- thymol,
- carvacrol,
- flavonoids,
- tannins.
You may already know the classic rooibos, but it's time to get acquainted with its green counterpart. It's milder and fresher, since it hadn't undergone fermentation. This also means it retains more of its natural antioxidants. It comes from the far-away South Africa – more specifically, the Cederberg region, where it’s endemic. Its taste is light, sweet and beautifully complements all the other ingredients in the blend. And the best part? It contains no caffeine, so you can indulge anytime, even at night before bed.
Rooibos is rich in:
- aspalathin,
- polyphenols,
- calcium, magnesium, iron.
