Origins
TAlso known as artisanal teas, these little treasures are produced in the cradle of green tea, China, mostly in Yunnan province. Artfully bundled into balls about 3cm in diameter, they are one of the most sought-after gifts and small tea pleasures.
Since they are rolled entirely by hand, they're produced in very limited numbers. They utilize mostly green and white tea, but black tea isn't too uncommon either. Various flowers are placed in the middle of the bundle which, after being covered with water, expand and bloom. Popular pick are jasmine, marigold, lilies, chrysanthemums and osmanthus... Everything is carefully tied or sewn with a thin thread.
In this tea, you'll find marigold, a traditional medicinal plant. It comes from the Orient and southern Europe and is grown as an annual plant. Its deep orange flower really stands out. It, together with the leaves and stems, is used to make salves and tinctures. Its leaves are dried for tea. In a 100g packet you will find up to 15 balls of blooming tea.
