Brew & Taste
After brewing, you'll get a bright green, sparkly infusion that already looks fresh and pure. The aroma has a subtle, very mild and natural trace of rice. The taste is full, yet smooth – floral notes layered with a hint of sweetness that stays long after you finish the cup. Don't expect the distinctive green tea astringency; on the contrary, Nilgiri Glendale Winter Twirl is the perfect example of a mild, rounded, and approachable green tea that's still full of complex layers. Every sip feels peaceful, balanced, and natural.
Origins
Glendale Winter Twirl comes from the Glendale Estate tea garden in the Nilgiri region of southern India, one of the world’s most renowned high-altitude tea-growing regions. Tea has been cultivated here since 1835, and today, the local plantations cover vast mountain slopes at elevations ranging from 1,650 to 2,120 meters above sea level. The high altitude, cooler climate, and frequent fog slow the growth of the tea plants, giving their leaves a finer texture and a richer aromatic profile.
Let’s also say a few words about the tea plant, because without it, there would be no tea. Camellia sinensis is an evergreen shrub with dark green, glossy leaves and small white flowers with yellow stamens. In the wild, it can grow up to a height of several meters, but on plantations, it's regularly pruned into a shorter, compact form to make it easier to harvest the leaves. It is precisely the young leaves and buds – known as tips – that contain the highest concentration of valuable compounds and give the tea its character.
Tea leaves are a natural source of polyphenols, particularly catechins, which are responsible for the fresh, slightly astringent taste of green teas and also the powerful antioxidant effect. What's more, they contain the amino acid L-theanine, which contributes to the tea’s mild, sweet flavor that's so often associated with feelings of focus and calm. Caffeine is also present – in tea, it's released gradually and has a more balanced effect than in coffee.
The name 'Twirl' refers to the processing method – after careful withering, the leaves are twisted very slowly, giving them their characteristic wire-like shape while preserving the maximum amount of aromatic compounds. The tea does not undergo oxidation, so it retains the freshness and purity of green tea. The winter harvest from December 2025 stands out for its distinctive elegance: it has a milder flavor, floral notes, and a long, naturally sweet aftertaste that is so typical of high-mountain teas from Nilgiri.
