Instructions
Mate gourd is the hollowed-out fruit of the calabash tree. It is made of purely natural material without chemical treatment. This traditional vessel for drinking yerba mate requires high levels of maintenance to guarantee a long lifespan and an extraordinary experience.

Before first use, perform the curado
Do not skip this "initiation ritual". It will rid the gourd of residual pulp and enhance the flavor of your mate drinks.
1. Fill the mate gourd up to 2/3 with yerba maté (dry or steeped) and cover them with hot water.
2. Let rest for 12-24 hours.
3. Remove the contents, rinse with lukewarm water and scrape the inner walls with a spoon.
4. Rinse again with lukewarm water.
5. When the gourd has been thoroughly cleaned, add dry yerba mate, cover with boiling water and let rest for 24 hours.
6. Pour out the contents, rinse with lukewarm water and allow to dry thoroughly.

Allow to dry every two days
To prevent the mate gourd from molding, put it down at least once every two days. After finishing your maté, rinse the container with lukewarm water and place it near a radiator or in the sun. You can tell if it is moldy by a dark or black coating with a mushroom smell. The presence of mold is a valid reason to replace the gourd with a new one. However, with use, you may find a greenish-grey coating inside the gourd – this is fine, it is caused by watering the yerba mate.

"Sweat" on the gourd is normal
You may initially see tiny drops of water on the sides or bottom of the mate gourd. It's nothing to worry about. The gourd is porous, and it takes a while for the pores to close with use. If the container is initially too wet, place it on a saucer or coaster.
