Origins
Moringa tree is a tree native to the foothills of the Himalayas. But it has spread throughout India, and can be found in Arabia, Africa and Madagascar. It reaches a maximum height of 12m and grows extremely fast, up to 3m per year. Its leaves are an important foodsource for the people of India and Africa. They are usually up to 60cm long, with 8-12 parts.
Their shape is ovoid or oblong. They are eaten raw, dried or as part of cooked dishes. Up to 27 tonnes of fresh leaves can be harvested annually from one hectare of moringa plantation. In addition to these, the green, unripe pod-like fruits are also used. They are either preserved or cooked, and the seeds are roasted – they taste like nuts.
The moringa flowers are used in many dishes, and the roots can be used as a substitute for horseradish, as they're slightly spicy. The bark of the tree is processed to make mats and ropes.
This tea has been fine-tuned with a few drops of natural flavoring. Unlike synthetic flavorings, it does not cause heartburn, irritate the stomach or acidify the body.
