The aforementioned yerba mate is popular especially in South America. For the local indigenous people, it symbolizes friendship. It's made from the leaves and twigs of the Paraguayan holly, an evergreen tree that grows on the banks of streams and rivers in the rainforest. Its original distribution extends to Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. But today, hollies are also grown in Africa and Hawaii. The leaves are cut with the twigs, stuffed into sacks and left to ferment. Once they deem the process sufficient, they heat the harvest vigorously. The next step in the production of yerba mate is drying, cutting it into smaller pieces, sorting and packaging.
Nettle, unlike Paraguayan holly, is commonly seen in our latitudes. Herbalists refer to it as the queen of herbs because its applications are really wide. Nettles grow in the northern hemisphere, but nowadays also in South America. They thrive on the edges of meadows or fields. The leaves are harvested and then slowly dried.
Aloe vera is a succulent that has been used for literally thousands of years. However, it was first described by Carl Linné in 1753. It is found in dry and warm areas of the Mediterranean, southern China, India, Africa and South America. It originally grew only in the Nile basin. Aloe vera has considerable historical significance. It was depicted as a medicinal plant in early Egyptian times on stone walls in the Valley of the Kings. Due to its latex content, many vitamins, essential amino acids, minerals and antioxidants, it is used in the modern pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.
