Benefits of Willow weed
This interesting plant – willow weed, or Persicaria lapathifolia – is one heck of a plant chameleon. It can look like a tiny procumbent flower or as a stocky, tall plant growing up to 2.5 m.
How can you tell it apart from other plants? Especially by its stalk, often colored red, and its leaves decorated with dark spots. When it's in bloom, it's covered in tiny yellow-green to pink flowers growing in dense barrel-shaped tufts.
Both the stalks and leaves contain a whole range of beneficial substances such as:
- flavonoids (like quercetin and rutin),
- tannins,
- essential oils,
- organic acids,
- plant mucosa,
- relatively high amounts of vitamin C,
- minerals (such as potassium, calcium, and magnesium),
- oxymethylanthrachinons,
- glycosides and phenolic acids.
So, of course herbalists love willow weed. They're slowly discovering all of its amazing abilities. Even though you can find growing in the most mundane places, it's far from a regular weed. Give its untapped potential a try yourself.
