Benefits of plum
We get it. A shot of plum brandy strengthens neighbourly relations, and buns with a plum butter have helped Honza (John) acquire a kingdom and a princess. However, plums can do so much more for us.
The first signs of plums date back to the Neolithic period. They grow on a tree called the plum tree, which is a favourite tree of many gardens. There are countless varieties of plum trees, but the one we are all familiar with is probably native to the Caucasus region. Today, however, it is widespread throughout the world.
Plums are stone fruits. They have different coloured skin, but the typical shade is blue-purple. The flesh is most often yellow. They have a sweet, juicy flavour, and it is no wonder they are one of the most popular summer fruits.
The fruit can be prepared in a variety of ways. They can be eaten fresh or dried, made into puddings and compotes or distilled into moonshine. The uses in gastronomy are numerous. In the case of drying, a specific technique using freezing is advised. It preserves the benefits almost unchanged compared to fresh fruit.
