Benefits of Pasuchaca
Although the benefits of this Peruvian herb have long escaped the attention of the Western world, they began to be discussed in scientific circles at the beginning of the 21st century. No wonder. A study by the Instituto Nacional de Perú pointed out its hypoglycaemic potential and many other benefits.
The Peruvian natives also reached for the herb in cases of malaria and cholera. Although they knew its abilities very well, they only spread the information among themselves by word. Therefore, it was not until the end of the 20th century that it became known to the world. Since then, however, Pasuchaca has been the focus of much of the attention of herbalists and scientists alike.
A tiny perennial growing only in the northern Andes (and still exclusively in the peaks above 3,000 metres above sea level), it blooms with red-orange or purple flowers. Botanists place it in the family Geraniacae, which includes about 650 species distributed in all countries of the world. Over 30 species of cacti have been identified in the Peruvian Andes alone. Pasuchaca is a local endemic, growing nowhere else in the world.
