Benefits of cistus
The rocky rose of the Canary Islands and the Mediterranean almost divided the unearthly inhabitants of Olympus. While the gods destined the cistus to heal warriors, the goddesses wanted to appropriate it to maintain their beauty. Fortunately, they eventually agreed, and so the original apple of discord of the Greek gods brought prosperity to all mankind.
Cistus is a medium-sized evergreen shrub with highly aromatic and beautifully coloured flowers. As mentioned in the introduction, you will mostly find this plant in the Mediterranean area. It belongs to the Cistaceae family, whose representatives are very well-known in the field of medicine.
It is a truly hardy plant. The seeds can wait in the soil for a suitable time and the shrub itself is perfectly adapted to cope with extreme heat. Probably the most famous representative is Cistus incanus, from which a fragrant essential oil can be extracted by pressing.
However, the dried leaves are also valuable. These can be found both chopped and finely ground. You can easily prepare an infusion and tincture from them. The decoction has a pale yellow colour and a rather bitter taste, so we recommend, for example, sweetening with honey. The powder is then great in smoothies or yoghurts. You do not have to limit yourself in sipping it, so enjoy all that Cistus has to offer.
