Benefits of catuaba
Are the kids asleep or at Grandma's? In that case, it is time for Catuaba. And who knows, maybe after a stormy night you will write a celebratory song about it, just like the Brazilian Indians did thousands of years ago.
Catuaba is the common name for several medium-tall trees in the same botanical family. These trees have the same characteristics and all grow in the Brazilian rainforest. However, some sources state that the true Catuaba comes from a tree with the Latin name Erythroxylum catuaba. Either way, the bark of the Catuaba was sacred to the local indigenous Indians, led by the Tupinambas. They thanked it for its strength and sexual energy, earning them the nickname "the elephant men of the forest". Many legends and songs have been written in its honour, attracting the attention of the outside world.
Today, the Catuaba is no longer only known in Brazil and its immediate surroundings, but is also available in our country in the form of dried bark. It is most often added to tea blends or ground into powder. When buying it, it is important to pay attention to the quality and origin of the bark. It should be organic and come from a region in northern Brazil.
Do not expect any miracles in terms of taste, it is after all the bark of a tree, but the benefits are worth it. The bark decoction has a beautiful dark red colour and is rich enough if you indulge in two cups a day. Due to its stimulating effects, it is not recommended for use by children and pregnant or breastfeeding women.
