Benefits of cascara
Coffee tea or tea coffee? Cascara has a little of each - in flavour and in effect. The absolute hit of the world's cafés and barista experimenters (as well as sportsmen or frutarians) has arrived in our country. Try dried coffee husks too.
In addition to the mentioned polyphenols, Cascara contains iron (reportedly three times more than spinach) and potassium (twice as much as banana). Add caffeine to the mix, and it is clear that non-coffee husk tea is a favourite for both long winter evenings and hot summer afternoons. It tastes great hot or iced.
When we consider that coffee beans are the seeds of a fruit, the deliciousness of Cascara is logical. In Yemen and Ethiopia, it has been well-known for hundreds of years. Perhaps, even before coffee beans were used in beverages. However, until recently, most of the world's producers considered the husks of coffee cherries a waste. Today, Cascara is not only used to make great soft drinks and alcoholic beverages but also to make cosmetics.
What the Arabic coffee tree (Coffea arabica) looks like goes without saying. The evergreen shrubs have oval, stiff leaves with a slightly wavy edge. They bloom with white flowers and produce reddish-purple berries with two seeds. Although coffee trees are native to North Africa, they are grown in South America, Indonesia and even Ceylon.
