Benefits of Canchalagui
They believe in Mother Earth which provides fertility. They worship mountain spirits, and their stories are full of myths. The Quecha (Ketchwa) Indians of South America are one with nature. Their life is based on agriculture - they domesticated the potato, "discovered" the quinoa, and began drying the meat of the ch´arki (jerky). It is not surprising that no herb has escaped their attention. Canchalagua (according to the ancient experience of the Peruvian Indians and the new findings of modern medicine) is an effective remedy for many ailments.
The health benefits of Canchalagua are due to its high content of costunolide and pectolinarigenin. This herb also contains germacranolides, flavonoids, and other compounds which support the healthy function of the body's organs.
Despite its wide range of uses, the use of Canchalagua should be avoided by pregnant and lactating women, children and individuals who are particularly photosensitive and may experience allergic reactions.
It should be mentioned that Canchalagua is an annual herb reaching about 50 centimetres in height. It looks inconspicuously, its stems resemble withered twigs, and it produces small flowers.
