Benefits of camu camu
Do you also feel that there are too many so-called superfoods coming at us at once? Some of them do have something to offer, and the glory of others will soon fade. But the importance of camu camu is only going to grow, believe us.
Camu camu comes from the heart of South America. The not-too-tall Myrciaria dubia tree (sometimes referred to as a shrub) grows mainly in Brazil, Peru and Venezuela. It is a highly prized crop for the local people and, thanks to the ever-increasing worldwide interest, a profitable commodity.
The fruit of the tree is a small berry slightly larger than a cherry. Their colour is red-green with pale yellow flesh. The high vitamin C content results in a very sour taste. This intense acidity is typical of fresh fruit. It is therefore not surprising that you are more likely to find a very fine powder variant. The taste is milder and even refreshing when mixed in water or smoothies. At the same time, thanks to the slow drying process, it does not lose any of the benefits of fresh fruit, which is not commonly available on the Czech market anyway.
However, there is a downside to the amount of vitamin C that camu camu contains. When consumed in excess, it can cause intestinal problems and a feeling of acidity. Some sources state that a teaspoon of powder from this fruit can replace half a kilo of lemons, so it is recommended to mix a moderate amount in water and sip gradually throughout the day.
