Benefits of baobab
The sacred tree of life and king of Africa. A tree whose age and size define well-deserved respect and whose fruits ripen in the hot sun for half a year to reveal their secrets.
The baobab is a symbol of longevity. The oldest tree is estimated to be an unbelievable 6,000 years old. Radiocarbon dating had to be used to determine this, as baobabs effectively retain water and do not form rings. Normally, these trees live to be between 1,000 and 2,000 years old and their trunks are up to 18 metres in diameter.
There are eight species of baobab in the world, six of which grow only in Madagascar. The remaining species are found in Africa and Australia. The most widespread pollinators of these trees are the fruit bats and, in some areas, small monkeys.
Baobabs are deciduous and in the dry season appear to grow upwards by their roots. Legend has it that it was planted by the gods, who disliked the baobab's eternal lament over the beauty of other trees.
But perhaps the most interesting thing is its fruit. Originally green, the elongated berries turn brown in the hot sun and their skin hardens. After applying brute force, the seeds inside the fruit appear like white foam candies. They can be eaten fresh in this form, but on our market, you will find them ground into a fine powder. Just mix it in a little water and you will fall in love with it for its sweet and sour taste.
