Ingredients
Rooibos, Honeybush, Elderberry, 2 % Blueberries, Knapweeds , Natural aromaBrew & Taste
After brewing, this tea gains a reddish-orange color and a pleasant, sweet taste reminiscent of blueberry cupcakes. How? Well, the blueberries in this tea are accompanied by sweet rooibos and honeybush, which lack any bitterness or sourness that often comes with other tea kinds. And the refreshing aftertaste is all thanks to elderberries.
This tea can also be served iced.
Origins
Scientists considered them a superfood, and we think that’s for a good reason; blueberries contain a huge amount of nutrients – from vitamins C, A and B to minerals and anthocyanins, which gives blueberries its signature blue-red color.
Blueberry plants (Vaccinium myrtillus) are actually classified in the Heath family, which makes them related to heather. And both of these enjoy similar conditions – high humidity, soil on the acidic side and higher altitudes. Blueberries are most widespread in Northern Europe but can also be found in Iceland or the Caucasus. We’d be throwing water in the ocean by telling you what blueberries are used for – we’ve all had blueberry jam, blueberry pie, blueberry dumplings or blueberry tea.
Honeybush is the other star ingredient in this tea. It adds a pleasant sweetness and smoothness to any blend, but it’s actually not quite tea. It’s the fermented, needle-like leaves of the Cyclopia intermedia shrub which grows only in the South African wilderness and cannot be cultivated anywhere else in the world. It requires specific soil and climatic conditions and is extremely sensitive to industrial pollution.
Finally, rooibos. Often called redbush tea. It’s also native to South Africa, but unlike honeybush, it is grown by farmers in America, Europe and Asia. It is harvested from the Cape tea tree (Aspalathus linearis). The twigs and leaves undergo fermentation process to produce its signature mahogany color and taste.
