Origins
Green Darjeeling has a truly famous origin, which is reflected in its extraordinary quality. In fact, Makairabi Estate is one of the oldest tea gardens in Darjeeling. According to surviving sources, it was established in 1859. Its founders – the famous Banerjee family – saw great potential in the land, which originally grew maize. So the first tea plantation was established, and gradually more were added, modernizing the planting and care of the tea trees, until a large enterprise grew up with certification and exports all over the world.
Tea plants thrive unusually well in the Indian mountains, but due to the climate and high altitude they can't grow all year round. They are therefore harvested in four seasons. This Darjeeling comes from the last harvest in fall. During the rainy season, in October and November, the tea leaves have a magnificent dark color and quality texture. They therefore produce a fuller, darker infusion and have a more pronounced aroma than teas from previous harvests.
Darjeeling has traditionally produced black, fermented teas, but due to the growing demand for healthy green teas, it has adapted to the market. Therefore, Darjeeling produces this high quality green tea that does not undergo oxidation and thus retains maximum valuable substances.
