Ingredients
100 % Ashwagandha BIOBrew & Taste
Ashwagandha has a light, creamy in color and has a scent that can be reminiscent of horse hair. The powder itself tastes distinctly bitter.
Origins
Nomen omen, as they say. In the case of Withania somnifera root, this Latin saying applies 100%. It has amazing fantastic abilities and it's been used in Ayurvedic medicine for more than 3,000 years.
The mother plant, a green perennial herb, grows in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia and Europe. It does not have high soil requirements, so it can be found along roadsides or in bushes. It grows up to 2m, has hairy branches and stiff, ovate leaves with fine hairs on one side and fuzzy on the other. Ashwagandha flowers yellow-green, the fruit is an orange berry with brown seeds.
But it is neither the fruit nor the leaves that are behind the high demand for Ashwagandha. The focus of interest for healthy lifestyle enthusiasts is its inconspicuous root. It is usually harvested 180 days after the plant is seeded, usually in early January in India. The roots need to be separated from the plant and well dried. They are then ground. It is reported that 350-400kg of dried Ashwaganda root can be obtained from 1 hectare of land.
The areas where Indian Ashvaganda is grown include Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, Punjab and others. It can be found in local markets under many names such as Ajgandha, Amukkara, Trittavu, Ghoda, Tilli, Goda akan, Asun, Penneru or Vajigandha. It is most often called Indian ginseng (although it has nothing botanically to do with real ginseng) or winter cherry.
Pregnant and nursing women should always consult a doctor before use. Caution is advised for people with autoimmune diseases.
