Ingredients
100 % Tulsi herb BIOBrew & Taste
The dark green-grey powder tastes sweet and spicy. It may remind some people of aniseed, others of peppermint. Because it is a ground herb, it does not dissolve in water. You can add it to dishes and drinks.
Origins
Tulsi is the wife of the god Vishnu in the Hindu mythology. And basil has the privilege of being considered her incarnation. Hence its sacredness. Tulsi, the holy basil, is a symbol of purity and true love. It has been and is used by people on almost every continent and of all ages. Its twigs have been found in the Egyptian pyramids and are said to have grown on the tomb of Jesus Christ. For Hindus, it is the most sacred herb. It is credited with the ability to rid houses of evil spirits, and is said to help strengthen friendships. It is not surprising, then, that we come across tulsi both in medical handbooks and in cookbooks. It's popular as a spice.
Sacred basil (Ocimum sanctum) is a perennial herb originally from India. Today, however, it is cultivated throughout Asia, South America, Australia and Africa. Botanists classify it as a member of the lamiaceae family, and it blooms in a similar way to the well-known related flowers, i.e. with a typical crown. The flowers are white, pink or purple. The plant itself is densely branched, growing up to 1m. The stems are hairy and the ovate-shaped leaves have a very strong scent.
The aroma of tulsi makes it one of the most sought-after plants worldwide. The main components of the aromatic essential oils are eugenol (also found in cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and bay leaves), methyeugenol or carvacrol (found in marjoram and oregano). It is these substances that give basil its characteristic aroma. In addition, the herb also contains alkaloids, phenols, saponins, flavonoids and tannins.
The holy basil plants from which this powder is prepared have been cultivated using strictly organic farming. This means that they have not been fertilized or treated with chemical products. The leaves are harvested when the herb is flowering. This is when they contain maximum beneficial substances. Tulsi should be dried in the shade and then stored in a place protected from moisture. The powder can be added as a spice to various dishes or drinks. Its consumption can boost the immune system, promote heart fitness, strengthen breathing and digestion and relieve symptoms of stress.
