Organic Green Rooibos – Long Cut
They look good in green and thrive under the South African sun! What are we talking about? The hand-harvested leaves of the Cape tea plant used to make the legendary rooibos. This Western Cape treasure has been grown organically with respect for nature, and its chopped twigs and leaves are left in their larger parts. A caffeine-free alternative to green teas, it retains all the charms of its better-known red counterpart, yet still delivers a fresh experience.
Ingredients
100 % Green rooibos Long Cut BIOBrew & Taste
This tea has an amber color with orange reflections. The flavor has a natural herbal tone and a pleasant sweetness with a slight nutty note.
Origins
Amidst the beautiful nature of the Cederberg Mountains, surrounded by unique rock formations and ancient paintings of the indigenous people, grows the Cape tea plant. This seemingly unassuming shrub has its only home here in the Western Cape, a province of South Africa. Interestingly, its seeds can easily withstand periodic forest fires and can last up to 6 years in the soil, ready to germinate.
One bush can easily produce both red and green rooibos at the same time. However, green rooibos is still rare. Up until the manual harvest in late summer or early autumn, red and green rooibos are identical. However, while the red rooibos is left to wilt, i.e. to oxidie, the green rooibos is quickly chopped and heated. The result is a drink that benefits the body just as much as its red version, but contains much more antioxidants as well as a unique natural feeling.
The popularity of rooibos has been on the rise for a long time thanks to its nonexistent caffeine content and its uniquely fresh and naturally sweet taste. The Cedeberg growers are aware of this and, therefore, are striving to offer even higher quality. This is proved by the organically grown shrubs as well as its longer needles, both of which intensify the resulting flavor of the drink, which is also perfect for a summer iced tea.
