A tea that captivates. That's how you could describe Masala Green. You'll love it when you pour it into your teapot. The dark green gunpowder blend is enhanced by light green lemongrass, red peppercorns and whole cardamom pods. And the aroma! When brewed, the drink has a golden yellow color and a slightly pungent aroma. The flavor is nicely balanced – the base is made up of fresh grassy notes with a slight smoky touch. There's also a spicy tangy taste with a sweet, honey aftertaste. Light and refreshing.
Gunpowder is perfect for iced tea. Try with this spice blend as well. You'll get an unusually delicious and energizing beverage.
Origins
Gunpowder is a green tea that comes from the Camellia sinensis shrub, like all green teas.
Even though the tea leaves are identical, gunpowder is very distinguishable from classic green teas. At first glance it looks different – the tea leaves are rolled into small beads. They are also called pearls, but to most people they resemble gunpowder. Perhaps because when water is poured over them, the beads literally almost explode into their original oblong shape. The largest producer of gunpowder is Fujian province in China. After the tea leaves are wilted, they are rolled, often by hand, roasted and dried. This is why they have a smoky aroma.
Cinnamon, cardamom, lemongrass, peppercorn, aniseed and nutmeg are sourced from our verified EU suppliers. This is because only selected producers are able to preserve the spices and herbs to make them ideal for use in loose-leaf teas. It is of the utmost importance to preserve their natural sensory and health properties. Cinnamon is traditionally grown in Sri Lanka, China or Thailand, pepper in the East Indies, aniseed comes from Turkey and nutmeg grows in Portugal.
