The infusion has a very specific combination of green and blue tones. The flavor is pleasantly sweet with a distinct herbaceous line.
Origins
Malva mauritiana is a variant on the more common Malva sylvestris. It grows mainly on the Iberian Peninsula and in areas of northern Africa. It is a delightful perennial plant that reaches 1.5m with purple flowers up to 5cm long. You can easily miss it in the wild.
Although mallow is quite common in meadows and pastures, controlled cultivation is preferred for phytotherapy. This protects it better from the harmful effects of an unsuitable environment and also makes it easier to maintain the quality and quantity of the beneficial substances.
Mallow flowers, like mallow leaves, have always been considered as a readily available yet exceptional pillar of natural healing. When fully bloomed, they are carefully gathered and then left to dry in direct sunlight. They are then macerated or made into a decoction for internal and external use. They are also excellent as an edible decoration. They are wonderful in salads and as a garnish for porridges and desserts. Outside the world of gastronomy, they are also used to dye fabrics, which is hardly surprising given their beautiful hues.
The mallow flower is a chameleon of the tea world. The moment you steep it in hot water, you get a beautiful blue infusion that will gradually change to green-blue tones. However, if you add a few drops of lemon, the brew will magically turn pink. Guaranteed to be an effective spectacle for visitors and lovers of delicious herbal teas.
