Ingredients
100 % Green tea Ceylon Highland BioBrew & Taste
Green Ceylon has neatly curled leaves. When poured over hot water, they give a light orange infusion and a delicate natural aroma. The flavor is slightly floral-fruity, the astringency pleasant and refreshing.
Origins
Green tea is produced in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) by eleven producers. Although the country is one of the traditional exporters of black tea, which it has grown since around the 1840s, green tea from the island state is becoming increasingly popular in Southeast Asia. This is because it has a very delicate taste, reduced caffeine levels and a number of health benefits. Today, it is mostly exported to Middle Eastern countries, Russia, with sales also increasing in Europe, North America and East Asia.
Sri Lankan farmers are renowned for their orthodox approach to growing and producing tea. Therefore, despite the increasing introduction of modern technology, their production is still a relatively lengthy and difficult process. Tea garden owners claim that good tea cannot be rushed. Harvesting and other steps are always a matter of judgment and a sense of timing.
The plucking of tea leaves is done exclusively by local women. They harvest only the top two leaves of each twig, the rest of the plant must remain intact. After being transported to the factory, the raw leaves are weighed and the tea goes to be fermented. It loses moisture within 18-24 hours, then is spread and rolled. The final drying time is between 20 minutes and 5 hours. The leaves are spread out on tables and air-dried. Finally comes the sorting room, where the tea is sorted into several quality categories.
