Ingredients
100 % Ginger BIOBrew & Taste
Organic ginger powder has a sandy color. Its taste is peppery, pungent, and a little sweet. As it is a product obtained only by mechanical treatment of the rhizome, it never dissolves completely in beverages.
You can add it to tea and smoothies, but it also serves as a seasoning for sweet and savory dishes.
Origins
Ginger may seem foreign in Peru. After all, it comes from Southeast Asia, and that is where it is most popular. The truth is that Peruvians love the spicy rootstalks of this plant, and it is one of the top 5 producers in the world. Its nature, climate, rich volcanic soil and humidity are super beneficial for ginger. The conditions in Peru even allow it to grow more slowly, making it more tasty and aromatic than ginger from Asia.
In Peru, ginger growers are focused on sustainable and organic practices. They avoid pesticides and use natural fertilizers. That makes their ginger particularly delicious and sought-after. In 2020, the country reported production of 20,000t of ginger, an increase of 15% from the previous year. 95% was organic quality ginger, a path Peruvian farmers intend to continue.
And what about the plant itself? Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is a perennial plant, about 1m tall, with long leaves. It hardly flowers at all, as it reproduces by rhizomes. As we have already mentioned, it is native to Asia and is now grown in India, China, Thailand, Jamaica, Mexico and Peru. Ginger rhizomes are rich in potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamin C and E. They also contain essential oils, flavonoids, alkaloids and other phytochemicals. Gingerols are behind ginger's pungent flavor. Ginger is commonly used to make teas, tea blends, fruit drinks or liqueurs or to spice up sweet and savory dishes. Incidentally, ginger is one of the most recommended spices according to Ayurveda.
Adults should not exceed a dosage of 4g per day. People suffering from gallstones or diabetes are advised to consult a doctor about the use of ginger.
