Damiana (Turnera Diffusa) – Herb
It's a crucial part of both modern and folk medicine. Damiana is referred to as the herb of the third millennium – it can help control weight and supports sexual health, which may be why the Mayans used it to brew love potions. It tastes refreshing and a little lemony. If it's too bland for you, add a drop of honey.

Brew & Taste
A very pleasant herbal taste, slightly lemony, accompanied by a similarly soothing aroma – that's Damiana. In the finish, you may also discover a slight bitterness accompanied by sweetness. We recommend sweetening with honey. The infusion is amber in color.
Origins
Damiana is native to Mexico, but it should be added that it is also found in California, Texas and other tropical regions of America. Although it's native to the USA, it is banned in some of its states due to its mild narcotic effects.
Mexican natives, especially the Mayans, are said to have used the plant to make love potions. It is said to have been introduced to Europe by the Spanish missionary Jesús Maria de Salvatierra. In his homeland, a decoction of Damiana was often given to women an hour before lovemaking to heighten their experience.
Damiana or Pastala diffusa (Turnera diffusa) is a shrub of about 3m tall in the Brazilian and Mexican savannahs, now also cultivated in Africa. It produces small yellow flowers that smell similar to chamomile. It tastes bitter. Its 2cm long leaves are oval, pale on the face, and veined on the reverse. The fruit is a 2-4cm capsule with a hard shell, sweet like a fig.
Dried Damiana leaves are used for infusions and decoctions. It is often recommended to combine them with, for example, Ginkgo leaves. Damiana is also added to Mexican liquor, margarita cocktails, or smoked. By infusing dried Damiana into wine for 2 weeks, a drink can be prepared that will provide a pleasant evening for two.
Pregnant women, diabetics and children should avoid Damiana.
Herb packaging preview
We pack our herbs in a strong, zip-lock aluminum packet which allows you to easily re-seal its contents. Thanks to the hermetic seal, the herbs are protected against humidity, light and foreign odors, all of which could noticeably affect the quality of the brew and the herb itself.
