Origins
Since we blended herbs, fruits and spices according to the principles of Ayurveda, let's talk a little more about this culture. It means "science of life" in Sanskrit, it originated in India and many beneficial and respected therapies have built upon its foundations. Ayurveda emphasizes prevention, leading to a focus on balance not only in diet but also in thought. It works with each person's individual constitution and balances the 3 basic energies of the body: Vata is the subtle energy associated with movement, Pitha governs the metabolic system, and Kapha forms the structure of the body.
When it comes to teas, Ayurveda uses a variety of herbs and spices. For personalities with Vatha energy, for example, it recommends ingredients such as ginger, fennel or cloves. For people with Pitha energy, it advises cardamom, ginger, licorice or stevia. And for those whose Kapha energy is predominant, it prescribes cinnamon, cloves, ginger or black pepper. It also very often includes turmeric, lemongrass or basil in Ayurvedic tea blends. We have taken inspiration from the recipes and have put together a unique Ayurvedic Relax with Turmeric.
From the name alone, we can deduce that turmeric plays a significant role in the taste and abilities of this tea. It is an antioxidant that contributes to normal immunity, but also to normal digestion, respiratory and nervous system function, normal joints and skin.
Turmeric is nothing more than the powder from the rootstalk of Curcuma longa, a perennial herb reaching up to 150cm. The plant can be found in India, China, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Jamaica. The dried and ground rootstalk is used as a spice or a dye. It contains the antioxidant curcumin (a yellow-orange natural dye), essential oils, and other elements, namely vitamin C, vitamin E and B as well as magnesium, potassium or iron.
