Hoary Willowherb (Epilobium parviflorum) – Herb
Some herbs can be safely categorized as masculine – and willowherb is one of them. It supports the proper prostate function. On the other hand, thanks to the quercetin, sitosterol, and lectin content, it’s also beneficial for women, as these support the functioning of the urinary tract and joint mobility. And one more advantage: it tastes very pleasant.
Ingredients
100 % WillowherbBrew & Taste
Willowherb infusion is pleasant and mildly herbal with a soft astringent finish, which is due to the tannin content. The taste is inoffensive, without overt bitterness, so it’s perfect as an all-day drink. You can flavor it with a drop of lemon, honey, or a piece of ginger.
Origins
Epilobium is a perennial herb in the Onagraceae family. It grows to a height of 20-80 cm and has a straight, rarely branched stem covered with fine hairs. The leaves are lanceolate, covered with hair on the reverse, with finely toothed margins. The flowers are small, pale pinkish-purple, four-lobed, and grow to 6-9 mm. The herb blooms from June to September and the fruit is a narrow capsule – it which cracks when ripe and releases seeds with white hairs that are spread around by the wind.
The herb can be found in humid habitats such as stream banks, wet meadows, or ditches. It’s widespread throughout most of Europe and parts of Asia but has also been introduced to North America.
This inconspicuous plant was rediscovered by the Austrian herbalist Maria Treben, who emphasized its benefits for men's health, particularly in relation to normal prostate function. Since then, willowherb has enjoyed increased attention among both herbalists and scientists.
Willowherb is rich in:
- Flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol, myricetin),
- phytosterols (beta-sitosterol),
- tannins (ellagitannins, gallotannins),
- lectins.
The above compounds of willowherb contribute to the normal function of the prostate, lower urinary tract, and digestion. They also promote joint mobility, natural immunity and relaxation.
