Origins
In the Guangxi region in the south of China, they like to play with the various scents of the teas grown here. They are able to combine the unique properties of high-quality green tea with the world of flowers to make the resulting infusion completely harmonious. A prime example is Green Snail Magnolia, which takes the typical light astringency of green tea and replaces it with a natural sweetness.
The Guangxi Region boasts a subtropical climate with only small temperature differences between summer and winter. Thanks to the influence of monsoons, there is plenty of humidity all year round, so it's no wonder the local tea plantations thrive. Those from which Green Snail Magnolia is sourced are located at an average altitude of around 800m, and the local growers are dedicated to their prosperity.
All leaf harvesting is done entirely by hand, ideally in early summer to preserve as much of the tea's strength as possible. The harvested leaves should not be spoiled by falling dew, so the bamboo baskets are filled before dawn. The tea is then left to rest in the sun for a while and then quickly heat-treated to stop oxidation. At this stage, the leaves are shaped into small balls resembling snail shells by the skilled movement of experienced tea masters.
The leaves are then spread out and fresh magnolia blossoms are placed between them. While they lie together, the unique fragrance of magnolias is transferred from the flowers to the tea. At the end of the drying process, the flowers are gently blown off, but their flavor and aroma remains in the tea leaves and will enhance every cup of this delicious drink.
