Origins
Ceylon black tea is rightfully considered one of the best teas in the world. It’s cultivated in Sri Lanka (known as Ceylon until 1972). This island nation in Southeast Asia has high mountains and fertile soil. The pleasant and humid climate is ideal for growing Chinese tea (Camellia sinensis), so there are 190 000 hectares of tea plantations in Ceylon. They can be found spread among six main areas. Ceylon tea is harvested three times a year and within 24 hours local farmers produce this delicacy mainly for export to European and Asian markets. The tea leaves are hand-harvested by women. After they’re moved to the factory in large baskets, they’re wilted and oxidized on large grates. Ceylon tea is distinguished by a longer oxidation period and therefore has a characteristic golden-brown color, intense aroma and refreshing flavor. After oxidation, the tea is rolled, broken, dried, ground and packed in sacks which are 25kg each.
The strength of this tea is further enhanced by a selection of spices and flavoring to aid its aroma and taste. Every ingredient is sourced from certified EU supplier. The natural flavoring is free from harmful substances, so you don't have to worry about heartburn, stomach irritation or over-saturation.
